On Friday, Gabriel Timothee, the head of Haiti’s Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) said that the number of cholera deathe in Haiti has reached 330 people; more than 4.7 thousand are infected.
The official noted that measures taken to fight the spread of the disease has so far produced positive results, despite an increase in fatalities. Most affected by cholera are in the valley of Artibonite in the north of the country. Doctors and representatives of the international humanitarian organizations are working with the population throughout the state.
It is also reported that with the increase in the number of victims from cholera, some people of Haiti are trying to illegally leave the country. So, according to the Border Service of the Dominican Republic (DR), at least 170 Haitians have been detained attempting an illegal border crossing through the border which divides the island of Hispaniola and Haiti.
In Haiti neighboring countries, including the Dominican Republic, cases of cholera have not yet been detected.
