Italian police have intercepted tons of smuggled cocaine, which could also be known these days as white gold. Law enforcement officers say that they have seized 2,200 pounds of pure cocaine with an estimated value of 250 million euros ($351million).
According to local law enforcement agencies, it is the largest quantity of cocaine seizure in Italy in more than 15 years.
Italian police found a ton of pure cocaine hidden inside four tractors shipped from Brazil in southern Italy. Commander Lorenzo Sabadino, the head of police said that the discovery came after a tip-off from Britain’s Organized Crime Agency, they gave Italian authorities the initial information, but it was very generic. However, with a good team and efforts the ship bearing an Italian flag was identified after it had arrived from Brazil. Officials of the police department said they are sure that this cocaine came from Colombian drug cartels with ties to the Ndrangheta. The Ndrangheta, which was behind the infamous Duisburg Massacre in Germany three years ago, is considered more violent than the Sicilian Mafia.
