According to senior US officials the country believes that Iran is supplying weapons in order to support the brutal Syrian crackdown currently going on against the Syrian uprising. This is according to American officials initiated by the supremo of the Iranian national guards. Head of the elite Quds force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, visited Damascus this month, according to one official, a step which the USA views as the most concrete sign so far which indicates the Iranian aid to Syria has military hardware as well.

The US official, on the condition of anonymity, said that they were confident of the fact that the head was received at the highest level of the Syrian government, which included the President Bashar al-Assad himself as well. He added that this act is equivalent to the support of the Iranian government to the current oppression of the Syrian people by the Assad regime. The official indicated that United States has every reason to believe that Iran is actually involved in the supply of military equipment to Syria that certainly includes munitions.

He said further that the US government firmly believes that Iran has supplied military equipment to Syria.  The United States has for a long period of time suspected that Iran is helping the Syrian government for its brutal crackdown of protesters. Another official was of the view that the visit of Soleimani has been the strongest example so far of the direct cooperation going on between the allies despite the fact that according to the estimates of the United Nations some 5,000 people have lost their lives to the criminal oppression.
